Letter from Joe Jonas in Africa / photos
Joe Jonas has been in Africa, and in its written home to thousands of fans on Twitter. Here Joe's letter telling of his adventures in Africa.
I'm sorry I been out of touch for a while, but here I'll tell you what I've been doing in recent weeks. I've missed a lot. I would like to tell you a little about what I've been doing:
I've seen some amazing things, I have met wonderful people, and I tried some delicious dishes. I have also experienced new cultures as never seen before.
My journey started in Maun, Botswana, Africa. Came some of my best friends to me to be part of this incredible experience. It seems that this has changed (life).
I had the opportunity to spend time with many children and adolescents who go to school. Their schools do not have enough space to accommodate all these people. In some classes there were hundreds of children in a room much smaller than most living rooms in the U.S.. Play sports. I tested my skills in football (soccer in the U.S.). It also touches several songs. It felt strange to sing without my brothers, but many of them knew the songs, which surprised me considering that many do not have a TV or radio.
I also met some of babies born to mothers carrying the HIV virus. The whole trip, this was one of the most emotional moments. I'm missing those children. I was about to return home with many Joecitos.
One of the most shocking things that you get to see was the joy of people having so few material things in their lives. They were so happy. Some, no homes or bathrooms were enjoying and happy to be with them. It makes you think about your own life and the things you have. These people may not have a bed to sleep, yet they are happy with their lives.
We went to a couple of villages where there were seven children with a mother in a house made of clay and soda bottles. We were able to bring blankets to keep warm, because the nights were very cold.
We all stayed in the tents as we warmed the feet with hot water bottles, because it was so cold. At Outside we heard the sounds of monkeys climbing on the store and hippos near every night.
Also went on a safari with a partner - a walking safari, a safari on horseback, and a safari with all-terrain vehicles, where we are a flea next to these animals.
Occasionally molestábamos our safari guide was asking where Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King.
I asked while I was there if you wanted to be part of an event where children are taught to respect themselves, others and their environment. Prince William was the chief guest and spent much time together. It was an honor to meet you and I hope to see you again soon.
In the future, I plan to go back to Africa and other nations, to lend a hand in everything you can. I think I feel more satisfied when I work with my hands. I have wanted to go to different places - not only in Africa, where I made new friends - but around the world. It is my goal to spend 50% of my time and life doing what I can to help others.
Happy to be back.
Thanks for your support
Joe "
